Why do I need travel insurance
From time to time, I get asked, “Why do I need travel insurance?” As of this writing, there are two tropical systems in the Atlantic: Hurricane Earl and Tropical Storm Fiona. Earl has already been disrupting cruises in the eastern Caribbean. The affected ships are either re-routing to the western Caribbean or juggling their order of ports. Some are even canceling calls at certain ports all together and adding in extra days at sea.
What if travel insurance was mandatory?
Did you know the costs of medical treatment and/or evacuation back to your home country from the Caribbean can cost $30K? Repatriation of a body if there is a death while abroad can cost $75K or more. You can plan your cruise vacation down to the color of the flip-flops you’ll wear, but there is always a chance something unforeseen could occur. Coverage for the cost of your trip is important as even though you can’t do anything to prevent an unexpected storm from canceling your cruise, you can do something to help cover your travel investment by purchasing a travel insurance and assistance plan for your next trip.
