Safer to cruise than the drive to get there
Greetings from Northern Florida as we make our way south on I-95 toward Cocoa beach. I am typing this while Laura is driving and the first thing I noticed is the amount of construction on the roadways. There have been several near miss and close call accidents on our drive from Canton.
With the stories in the past two months of the Costa Concordia accident and more recently norovirus outbreaks, I started thinking how it is safer to cruise than the drive to get there. There are far more car accidents every year than there are people who are are affected by a norovirus outbreak on board a ship. It can get downright scary trying to navigate all of the cars, trucks and 18-wheelers.
Have you ever noticed how badly you tend to eat while on a long distance drive? Chips, cookies and other snacks. There is far more healthy offerings on a cruise ship. You also have a stateroom steward to clean up after you. Good luck with that happening after the long drive is over? It is like the trash seems to multiply in the small space of your vehicle!

We have now made it to Cocoa Beach where we are safely in for the night at the Residence Inn. We love this hotel for a pre-cruise because it offers a shuttle to the port as well as a full breakfast. We leave at 11 a.m. to board Disney Dream for a four-night cruise. We are off to find Chinese for dinner tonight. It will be the last time we hand over our credit card. Everything on the ship will be charged to on onboard account using our room key.
We plan to stay safe by following some simple steps like constant hand washing and extra cleaning before eating. We hope you will follow along on cruise and hope you remember that a cruise is far safer than the drive to get there. Happy Sailing and thanks for cruising with us virtually!
