Heading to the Riviera Maya

without comments

Laura and I are headed to the Riviera Maya tomorrow. We will be staying and blogging live from the adults only all-inclusive resort, El Dorado Royale. Will you once again follow our adventures live? Be sure to ask any questions in our comments and we will answer them as best we can! While there, we will be checking out several resorts for adults and families which are part of the Karisma Hotels family.

Swindled

I awoke in the morning refreshed.  There is such a calm feeling in the morning about the city.  I like to look out as the sun is coming up and there is a slow sweet song of horn honking.  I am excited about today as I am going to go see the Qutub Minar tonight after work.

The Cabin

Besides suffering from a severe case of jet lag, I am faced with a whole new vocabulary to maneuver my way through.  This will prove to be interesting and I am up for the challenge.  After meeting with Satish he shows me to my “Cabin” better known to you and me as an office.  If there is one thing I can say about our Indian counterparts is they are not shy about color.  The cubicles have a bright lavender fabric on the walls.  There are shades of greens, reds, blues, yellows……you name the color and I can find it somewhere in this building.

For those that don’t know me, I am a very prompt person and I do not like to make people wait on me.  I quickly shower or attempt to (this is difficult as the shower in my room is heavenly) and get ready for my day.  Since my trip was planned on short notice there was not time for the office to make arrangements for me so my counterpart was going to pick me up at the hotel and take me to the office.  About 7am my phone rang and it was Satish, my counterpart and he informed me that it would be my driver to pick me up at the hotel and that his name is Gopal.  We agreed to meet at the office although he gave me the alternative to sleep in due to my late arrival, but I declined.  In hind sight I probably should have taken him up on it.

EVERYONE USES THEIR HORN

The Hotel

It was a long walk to the car.  I actually wondered at one point if we were walking to the hotel.  It is hot, humid and stuffy and I have been travelling for almost 21 hours and I am plain tuckered.  We arrived to the car which was air conditioned.  This is something that I am told that you have to request; it is not a necessary given.  Thankfully it was dark outside and I could not see where we were going, because if I had the panic probably would have taken over again.  Even at this time of night there was a fair bit of traffic on the roads.  There is no respect for lanes and everyone has a horn.  EVERYONE USES THEIR HORN.  The driver told me it would take up to 30 minutes to arrive at the hotel and we were there within 20 minutes.  What I saw next I never expected.
