I have a new girlfriend and her name is Diane…as in Steak Diane. On our cruise on Celebrity Millennium, we ate at the Olympic specialty restaurant for a date night.
Our first experience with specialty dining onboard a ship was on our first cruise on Celebrity Infinity when we did a seven night cruise to Alaska from Vancouver.
It was on this cruise where we first experienced warm goat cheese soufflé. Our experience on Wednesday night did not disappoint. After our first taste of the soufflé, we went on to the salad course. We had a taste of an Heirloom Tomato Salad, Buffalo Mozzarella with thinly sliced apples and cantaloupe as well as Phyllo Baked Anjou Pear with Roquerfort Cheese. However, it was the main course that introduced me to my new girlfriend.
Laura had a fried Chilean sea bass which appears on the menu as Crispy Loup de Mer. It melted in her mouth. I was ordered and was able to receive Steak Diane expertly prepared tableside by our waiter Sasha from Macedonia. I am telling you that it was so melt in your mouth good that I wish I could order it every night!
What followed was a cheese course which strangely included no cheese whiz, easy cheese or slices individually wrapped in plastic.
Finally it was on to dessert. Laura’s was Quattro Aapples and I had a Crepe Ballon Rouge.
It is not just the food that is special about dining in The Olympic restaurant. In a section of the restaurant, where we dined, you are surrounded by paneling from the HMS Olympic which was the sister ship to Titanic. Rich dark real wood paneling had been purchased by a gentleman from England. It was bought by Celebrity Cruises in 1999 during the construction for Celebrity Millennium. In the restaurant you will also find a chandelier and sink from HMS Olympic as well as three champagne bottles dated 1907 carried by HMS Titanic and recovered from the bottom of the north Atlantic.
When you sail on Celebrity Millennium, be sure to arrange your own dining in The Olympic specialty restaurant. When you do, remember that I have a new girlfriend and her name is Diane…steak diane.
