I am addicted to Deadliest Catch

Hi my name is chuck and I am addicted to Deadliest Catch.

Hi Chuck!

On Wednesday, we were docked in Ketchikan, AK and we had the chance to go out on the Aleutian Ballad which was featured in season 2 of Deadliest Catch. If you are a fan or have ever watched, this was the boat that was hit by a rogue wave during the season. They were lucky to be alive and with very few injuries.

David, the owner of the boat, seeing the interest in Deadliest Catch saw an opportunity to teach those coming to town on cruise ships about the fishing lifestyle and to make some money in the process. So he pulled his boat from the water and spent seven months overhauling the boat and converting the deck to theatre style seating. He can take 80 people on a trip into Annette Bay.

This is an area that he leases from a group of natives who were given the water rights for sustenance purposes. As such, they can “fish” outside of the normal seasons for crab, cod, bairdi, halibut, etc. When I say fish, I would call what they are doing as a demonstration. The pots are kept baited and for the most part full or pre-stocked. They show off the different types of pots and what they can catch with them.

There is a live tank they use to show up close some of their catch before releasing them back into the water. However, the exciting part for me was seeing the block, the pot launcher, and hearing that sound the rope makes as it is hauled aboard. It took over three minutes to haul one crab pot. Ah the magic of editing!

Still I am addicted to Deadliest Catch and I had a great time on this excursion in Ketchikan, AK. If you are a fan like me, ask how you can do this too!
