What NCL got right with Epic
Laura and I just flew over Oasis of the Seas on our departure from Fort Lauderdale and are currently winging our way back home from our whirlwind tour of Norwegian Epic. I wanted to use this update to share what NCL got right with Epic. Epic is a different ship than Oasis, but I think you will find there is some cruise for everyone. What follows will be a series of random thoughts and photos from our tour.
I don’t know about the ladies room, but in the men’s room there is a paper towel dispenser right by the door and under it a trash can. Very convenient to grab a piece of paper, dry your, open the door handle and toss your used paper on your way out.
The right person to take a cruise on Norwegian Epic is a first time cruiser who has spent many vacations in Las Vegas to see their fantastic shows. Onboard Epic, you will get a chance to see Blue Man Group, Cirque du Soleil and a group of singing impersonators called Legends. These are all shows you can see in Las Vegas but you will pay a premium for.
If you like to take family vacations and have younger children, they will enjoy seeing and interacting with characters from Nickelodeon like SpongeBob and Patrick. Your kids would also LOVE the water park. Of course, the kid in you will probably love it as well.
Maybe you are a bit more affluent and prefer to travel on Regent Seven Seas or SeaDream. Would your entire family and especially your grandchildren be bored sailing on them? On Norwegian Epic, you have the ability to have your own Villa with a private pool, courtyard, fitness center, indoor and outdoor dining facility, and your kids and grandkids can have private elevator access down to the rest of the ship including the sports deck and more.
Maybe you are a single traveler who frequently has to pay double to cruise. Epic offers a Studio stateroom at 100 square feet that is more than ample for the single traveler on a weeklong cruise. You also have a lounge to hang out with your new found friends.
Maybe you would prefer a spa vacation. Epic has the largest spa at sea operated by Mandara. You will find Spa suites onboard which includes access to the facilities like the thermal whirlpool and heated relaxation beds. You can also purchase a pass for the week for $119 per person or $199 for a couple.
While Norwegian Epic visits many ports of call in the Caribbean, I think you will find that the ship is a destination unto itself. There are 21 restaurants onboard Epic and 11 of them are included with the cost of your cruise fare. The 10 specialty restaurants include an Italian option called La Cucina, a Chinese Noodle Bar and restaurant called Shanghai, a French restaurant called Le Bistro and a vegan nightmare of a Churrascaria called Moderno where guachos bring samples of chicken, meat, lamb and chicken table side until you turn over the red flag of surrender.
