Mommy and Daughter Cruise Day 7

without comments

After a few days rest, my wife wanted to wrap up her thoughts about her first ever mommy and daughter cruise.

Mommy and Daughter Cruise Day 7

Final Day at Sea

My daughter had a sleepover last night with her new friend so I had the cabin to myself.  I awoke early this morning just before the sun broke the horizon and snapped some shots as the sun came up to greet us all.  It was such a beautiful sight.

I figured the girls’ would sleep in so I took advantage of my single status.  I mentioned in an earlier post that Simone with the Concierge department had given us the opportunity to dine in Cagney’s Steak House for breakfast and lunch.  This treat is usually only afforded to suites and VIPs.    I knew my daughter would not take the time to do this with me so a headed up on my own.

Let me tell you, this was one of the best meals I had on the ship the entire trip.  I ordered the Crabcake Eggs Benedict and they were perfect.  The restaurant was beautiful and comfortable.  I enjoyed listening to the chatter between the other tables.  You could tell that they all had made friends during their cruise.  One of greatest gifts on a cruise besides the rest and relaxation is the opportunity to meet and make lasting friends.

After my meal I walked the decks.  In addition to shuffle board and ping pong , the ship also offers a large chess board (pieces are 2-3 feet high, and golf driving tent.  There is the main pool mid ship, a kids pool aft and a large hot tub forward.

Later I met back up with my daughter and her friends.  We spent the day aft at the kids pool.   It was another very windy day.  Time past way to quickly and between ice cream cones it was time to go back to the room and dress for dinner.  I was able to get half our bags packed before our friends came to our room.  Our last meal was in Aqua on deck 6.  We all enjoyed a leisurely meal before heading to our last show.

The last show was a mixture of two acts that we had seen earlier in the week, the illusionist and the juggling/comedy team.  It was a good final show and a nice end to our week.  Then the daunting task of packing and getting our bags out for pick up began

Disembarkation

I woke up on that last morning shortly before  7am and we were pulling into our berth in San Pedro.   I allowed my daughter to sleep while I got ready, packed a few items and did a final sweep of the room.

My daughter and I met our friends down in Versailles for our final breakfast.  It was the only time that we had eaten in the dining room for breakfast.  The service was slow, but the meal did not disappoint.  It didn’t matter that it was slow because the girls were trying everything in their book to delay the inevitable.

We ran back to the room to get our bag and to await the call to disembark.  Our friends never received bag tags so there were instructed to get off with the final group.  Even though we were sent VIP tags with early disembarkation we stayed back with our new friends since our ride was not due to pick us up late morning.

The lines were long  and the announcements numerous.  Eventually we got in line to leave the ship.  The line moved quickly.  By the time we arrived, the tent that contains the sea of bags was nearly empty.  We walked right by our lone bags sitting all by themselves.  This was the easiest retrieval of bags that I have ever experienced on a cruise, and  a very nice treat.  I will have to plan my flights home so that I don’t have to rush off the ship in the future.

Thank you for cruising along with my daughter and me. If you have questions, please feel free to leave us a comment or give us a call. A cruise with a child without another parent to help presents unique challenges, but we now have memories that will last us a lifetime.
