Mommy and Daughter Cruise Day 5
My wife and daughter visited Puerto Vallarta as part of their Norwegian Star Mexican Riviera cruise. If you have questions about this cruise or there is something you would like to know about on the ship, please leave a comment. Here is their report:
Mommy and Daughter Cruise Day 5
Puerto Vallarta
I survived! Every bone and muscle in body aches, but I am still alive. Today, my daughter chose for us to go zip lining. I have never done this before so needless to say I was nervous. Let me back up and start from the beginning.
The day was beautiful. PV is more lush and green of the three stops we have made. It is actually a busy city. We had to catch a cab to a the Zip Line meet up on the south side of the city. I am always leery of travelling in the city where I don’t speak the language. Anyhow, we grab a cab to take us to the meet up point. We agreed on ocho, before pulling away, when we arrived he said it would be $16. Funny how is English was all the sudden perfect. Oh well, I didn’t want to ruin the day so a paid it and got out, taken by my first cabbie.
Ok, I have explained by contingencies that I incorporate in my planning. What I didn’t figure on was the tour company building contingencies into their instructions to……we had to wait an hour before our tour would leave. It was fun to watch the passer bys and the weather outside was beautiful. Time actually passed quite quickly. Shortly after arriving our friends from the tour the day before arrived as well as another couple that has a time share in PV. Before we knew it we were loaded on a bus to be whisked away to our tour.
It was a 30 minute ride along the coast. We passed beautiful hotels, resorts and homes. I was surprised by the amount of construction going on especially with today’s economy. After arriving we were shown the banos, the lockers for our bags, and fitted with harnesses and helmets. The guides all introduced themselves and did a quick lesson on what to do and then we were off.
Let me digress for a moment….this tour is very physical. You need to be able to climb stairs, uneven stairs, and uneven terrain. It was physically exhausting for me and even exhausting for those who were fit. I can honestly say we were all huffing and puffing from one line to another. There are plenty of roots and vegetation to help out along the way. You are climbing up a mountain and there are drop offs. They do have some barriers made out of limbs along the way; they are not very sturdy as some teens found out while we were waiting for our last line. They decided to sit on one of these and it collapsed underneath them. They fell down into a canopy of trees a couple feet down. We all scurried to get them up because their next drop would have been 20 feet or so.
There are 14 lines to zip across in all. We crossed the river below twice. The longest line was ¼ mile long and our top elevation was 750 feet above the river. The guides made it fun. They would do a tandem and patrons and let them hang upside down while videoing it which can be purchased at the end of the tour. It takes over an hour to zip all the lines and then you have an hour to swim in the river, eat at the restaurant, and buy pictures and videos of your experience.
My daughter was antsy to return and meet up with her friend. So she had to be the first on the bus so she could be the first off to get a cab and return to the ship. We had been invited to join our friends family to see their vacation home if we could get the schedules to work, let’s just say that they didn’t. I spent the afternoon trying to entertain a little girl that was disappointed. I wish I had known that we would miss them because there was a lot that we missed in town that I would have enjoyed seeing. Keeping everyone happy on a vacation is one of the hardest things to do and you start seeing everywhere amongst the other guests half way through the trip.
I did check my daughter into the kids club for which I had to pay for a full hour for 30 minutes time left because they were still considered in port. At this point it didn’t matter. I picked her up shortly after so we could see the show.
Tonight’s show was “The Second City” out of Chicago which performs sketch comedy. It can be a little adult oriented, but most of that humor went over the kids heads. We also found our friends which joined. After the show we had dinner and went for a walk up on the deck. Afterwards we parted ways to turn in for the evening.
The next two days will be spent at sea. If there is something in particular that you would like to see on the ship, write to us, and we will check it out for you and take pictures if you like. Now for a few pictures.
