Mommy and Daughter Cruise Day 4
It was day 4 and my wife and daughter sailing on Norwegian Star visited Mazatlan, Mexico. Here is their report:
Mommy and Daughter Cruise Day 4
Mazatlan
It was a beautiful day in paradise. Let me tell you about our day.
We started early and headed to the main terminal to meet our guide, Elise. She is from Vancouver and has been here for about 6 years. We met up with another couple from Holland America which was also in port. Elise guided us to a van and then we took a short drive where we picked up a water taxi to take us to our final destination – Stone Island. The other couple travelling with us was celebrating their 10th anniversary.
We arrived to our area where horses were given to each of us. Mine was named Coffee and Alison was the name of the horse that my daughter had. I had not been on a horse for at least 30 years. I was going to have to depend on the expertise of my 6 year old to get me through this day.
Our ride lasted approximately 2 hours. We took some back roads/trails over to the coconut groves. Elise did a great job of tailoring to each person’s whims and desires. Following our return back, we rode through town and over to a restaurant/club to spend the afternoon. We partook in frozen lemonade and fresh coconut. For all of you haven’t tried fresh coconut, I can’t say that I recommend it, but you should try it at least once. It was nothing like I expected. Let’s just say I don’t have to try it again!
We all changed from long pants into our swim wear. I rented a boogie board for my daughter. She spent the next couple of hours riding the waves and having the time of her life. Thank you to the anniversary couple for your time and patience in showing her how to do it. Before heading back to the ship, we did a little shopping with some local vendors. I picked up a cute dress my daughter and we made our way back. Once back at the pier we ran into our new friends. We went through the adjacent flea market where my daughter purchased a bracelet that matches her new friend’s.
Before I move on to the rest of the afternoon, I want to thank ShoreTrips and our guide Elise for an awesome excursion. If you ever find yourself at Mazatlan, I can highly recommend this company for an unforgettable afternoon.
We had been so busy with horseback riding and playing on the beach that we totally missed lunch; we were pretty hungry once we arrived back on the cruise ship.
The girls put on their swimsuits, and we all met up and ate at Versailles for dinner. Fortunately, we were able to catch the early show and had a blast watching the comedic juggling duo. We were in the front row again due to the girls request and yours truly was even part of the show, which is totally out of character for me.
After the show we went for a quick dip in the hot tub/pool. By this time may I just say my bum is a tad bit sore! I could also use my friend and chiropractor, Dr. Joe. I must find a way for him to travel with me in the future; these old bones are in need of cracking!
There are a couple of thank yous that I would like to pass along. We were contacted by the ship’s concierge yesterday and she supplied us with many tasty goodies and an invitation to dine in Cagney’s Steakhouse for breakfast and lunch for the remainder of the trip. While we have not had the opportunity to try this out yet, we plan to on our last two days at sea. We appreciate her kind generosity and hospitality. In addition to all of yesterday’s treats we returned to our room tonight where 6 beautiful chocolate dipped strawberries had been left by the hotel director. This made a great end of the day snack for my daughter who only made through 1½ before falling asleep. They will be a nice treat to share with our friends tomorrow.
Speaking of hospitality, our friends have family in the Puerto Vallarta area, and they have invited us to join them for dinner tomorrow night. We are not quite sure is schedules are going to work yet, but we are greatly appreciative for the extended invitation.
Each port has been more vibrant than the next so there in no telling what is in store for us tomorrow. Now I must get some sleep so that I can keep up for the adventure my six year old has in store. Check in tomorrow to see what I do for the first time in my life. Here are some pictures from the day:
