Mommy and Daughter cruise Day 3
My wife and daughter are currently sailing on Norwegian Star from Los Angeles down the Mexican Riviera. It sounds like they are having a wonderful time.
Mommy and Daughter cruise Day 3
Cabo San Lucas
Well I survived my day at sea with my daughter. We have gone through our trials and tribulations with it being just the two of us. All in all things have gone well and I wouldn’t change anything yet that we have experienced. Today we dock, well tender, in Cabo San Lucas. I have wanted to visit this destination since my teens and I finally made it.
Our morning started with waking at a leisurely hour, no alarm again. It has been hard to adjust to the time changes so although sleeping in the east coast, we still are waking before the roosters on the west coast. Time moved ahead an hour. I don’t have a watch with me so I am constantly having to keep track of east coast time, west coast time, and port time via my computer and blackberry.
The ship was arriving later in Cabo and we were to meet at 11 am to pick up tender tickets and boats to start at 11:30. I went down about 10:30 and people were already standing around waiting to go to shore. I decided that it wasn’t worth standing with the masses and went back to my stateroom to hang tight. We had no particular plans.
Well, as you may or may not know, my six year old does not always have patience. We went down to get our tickets with our bag in tow. How bad could it be now at 11:30. We everyone was still hanging around waiting. We got our orange tickets around the 700s. The next call was pink 300. I think to myself that it won’t be bad, only to come and find out that each color series has 1000 numbers. All in all it was not a bad wait. Eventually everyone started to get the hang of things and they were calling groups faster and faster.
Some tidbits that I learned. I don’t know if this is for every NCL ship or just the Star. People with NCL excursions can proceed directly to the gangway without tender tickets. Those who have excursions through other parties are on their own. The NCL member that was near us told one family that they could go down and ask if they would let them on. My thought is that if you took your paperwork that they would probably try and work you in. Your best bet is to work with them and you will probably get your way.
Like I stated previously we had no particular plans. My daughter kept talking about the beach and I would have loved that, but it was a bit of a hike. There were plenty of people along the marina that we tendered in at offering water taxis to the beach for $2/person. To me it would have been worth it, but my concern was that once we got over that we would not be able to get back. Instead we walked a flea market and went to Sammy Hagar’s bar Cabo Wabo for lunch. We shared an order of nachos and drinks.
I was finally able to persuade my daughter to head back to the ship and enjoy the pool there since we would have beach time in both Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta. On our way back, I took a spill on some wet tile and now have a huge bruise on my right knee. Don’t worry, I will survive, but damn does it hurt.
On the tender back to the ship we had the camera out this time. The sea lion that we passed on the way over was nowhere to be seen on our return. I forgot to mention that in the morning there were two humpback whales following the ship. We didn’t have the camera out then either.
We spent an hour at the pool before heading to our first dining experience at one of the specialty restaurants. Tonight we dined at the Teppanyaki restaurant. When we made our reservation the only availability was 5 pm or 9:30 and we chose the earlier of the two. It was wonderful and extremely tasty. This experience definitely will not disappoint. Much to my surprise they only charged half the charge for my daughter.
Afterwards we played shuffleboard to blow off energy and let our food settle. We finally caught up with our friends that we met the previous night. It is another mother daughter duo. There is about a years difference in the girls ages. We hung out with them for a while and went and sat with them while they ate at Versailles. Once they finished dinner we headed over to the theatre for the late show. Tonight was the magician and the girls thoroughly enjoyed. The other girl’s mother took them for an early midnight stroll while I was able to get things together for our day tomorrow.
I look forward to another adventure with my daughter tomorrow. She amazes me more and more each day. I love her energy and her zest for life. She is the perfect travel companion as she is willing to try anything. Today she informed me that she wants to parasail. I will have to start researching that. Now time for some pictures from our day!
