Some thoughts on Roatan

This evening we are headed to Cozumel, Mexico. As the seas are a bit bumpy this evening, I thought I would share some thoughts on Roatan.

I have a new favorite girlfriend in the Caribbean and her name is Roatan. If the end of Shawshank Redemption had involved a plane instead of a car ride down the Pacific coast, Andy would have ended up on a beach on Roatan. For miles and miles, this gorgeous beach stretched away from the West Bay. In my mind’s eye, I could see Andy working on his boat while Red strolled up to see his friend.

I am not sure if it was the fact that there were only two ships in port, the cloudy weather, or the rough seas, but today was really how I see a beach day. Good company with new friends, a fine Mexican meal, and the chad playing in the sand and water without a care in the world. She managed to make a new friend too in the process.

Carnival Corporation has built a purpose built port of call at Mahogany Bay where you could do all of your shopping and eating if you wanted, or you can venture beyond the gates down the road not taken and see a world most will not experience in their lifetime. Seeing my fearless chad taking to the zipline like a trooper who came running up after the van brought them back to the top shouting “Daddy I want to do that AGAIN!” is just another memory this cruise has allowed me to file away in my mind’s memory cabinet. She rode two miles over 16 lines and 14 platforms. It is not the zipline close to the port, but up in the mountains. I highly recommend going to do this.

I cannot wait to return to Roatan either on a cruise or maybe on a land vacation some day soon. I hope when you come here, you will let me share what I learned and experienced on this wonderful day. Thank you for letting me share some thoughts on Roatan.
