Our meeting at sea came to an end two Saturdays ago, and I returned home re-energized about my business and the future. Many talented people are involved in our company. With face to face meetings, one is able to make the stronger connections with vendors, suppliers and fellow owners that email and even the telephone lack.
We lived together for five days and there is so much to be gained when you actually break bread with someone with whom you wish to do business.
I made one final note about holding a meeting at sea which was observed by someone on the ship who was not a part of our conference. This woman noticed that as we came out of our meeting rooms we were still talking to each other. So often she had been at a land based convention where immediately people are on their phones either talking, checking messages or texting. With the higher cost of calls made on ship or international roaming, the participants actually seem to make far stronger connections. Think about that fact, the next time you are planning for your next meeting, incentive trip or convention.
