We share our passion for the cruise experience

Not on the cruise menu, no problem

without comments

In September 2004, we were taking our first cruise to Alaska on Celebrity Infinity. We had picked this ship in part because it offered in-cabin babysitting and our daughter was just 15 months old. I had been told, that Celebrity Cruises offered some of the best food at this level of cruising.

Doing further research, I learned that just about any request in the dining room will be honored if it all possible. Don’t see it on the menu just asked. One night, we happened to ask for something special and quite frankly oozing chocolate.

It was on this cruise we were introduced to the German/Austrian delight known as Mohr Em Hend. Oh the memory of that dish invaded our senses and psyche. Several cruises later, we would ask for it each time. Sometimes it was not possible, but most times it was.

The above photo was taken on board Disney Magic. The chef was Austrian and never once had he been asked to make it, but of course knew the dish well. We had a separate order which allowed our wait-staff and head waiter to sample this wonderful delight.

When you cruise, think about a dish you have loved or wanted to sample, or just ask for something special. More than likely you will find something wonderful. This is just one of the many reasons why we value cruise vacations so highly. Maybe soon you will join us and find a gastronomic inspiration!
