You'll need the tools for survival
Today I headed down to the county to pay $60 to obtain a county business license. They have our company name and home address. They also stamped it with “HOME OCCUPATION”. I feel better knowing my home is occupied. I wonder if the troop numbers will increase.
I continue to watch the price of oil and the downward plunge of the stock market and wonder if we are making the correct decision. The economic news continues to be dire and here we are about to open a business that deal with discretionary income. It is funny though just about every connection I talk to is thinking about, has gone, or is getting ready to go on a cruise.
Then today Royal Caribbean has generated excitement in the travel world and press with details about their new ship Oasis of the Seas. They have to fill that ship somehow! I know we are doing the right thing.
From the business license place it was a quick drop by the bank to give them a copy. I then stopped by the UPS Store to check my mailbox and chat a bit with the owner. I have been coming in to their store for over two years and figure it was time to ask advice of someone who has been successful in opening a franchise.
Today it was a referral for an accountant. It turns out there is one not to far from here that does work for UPS Stores but he also specializes in small and home based businesses. I have set up a meeting for next Thursday. The initial consultation takes about an hour and is actually free. His last name is Wurst and my buddy at the UPS Store made plenty of jokes about this CPA being the Wurst accountant in history.
Adding up what I have spent so far:
$65 to register the URL for the website for ten years.
$125 to register the business name and file articles of organization in the state of GA.
$60 for the county business license.
$231 for mailbox rental for eighteen months.
$159 for my ticket to FLL for training in August.
Yes it is nice to get the option to have some professional advice for free!
